Topics to explore in your custom sessions

Creating a positive mindset

Children’s reactions to situations often stem from what they’re thinking. Knowing how your mind can work for you, rather than against you, is a powerful approach to learning and life in general. Perfectionism can set in from a very young age and often stems from a fear of mistakes and judgement of others.

Help your child feel confident

We can also explore the following aspects to help your child feel confident and build a growth mindset:

  • Think good things about themselves
  • Learn to take risks and try new experiences
  • Let go of fearing mistakes and failure and feel proud of what they can do
  • Believe in their own capabilities and learn to like themselves
  • Learn to think positively when faced with a challenge
  • Move from ‘I can’t’ to ‘I can’t YET’

Building your Custom Course

You can choose what sessions you would like, when you would like them, how many you would like and how many children are involved. If you have any other specific needs, please do get in contact and we will see what we can do! Please contact us on [email protected]

Our Life Skills sessions are for ages 8-11 and teach children how to tackle adversity through serious fun, ambitious content and active learning.

Our Brilliant Me sessions, for ages 5-7, use the power of story to help children explore how to see things and think differently about them. What a revelation to find out that we are supposed to find new things hard and that the mistakes we make actually help us learn!

Course Breakdown Questions

The 90 minute sessions will be run on a software called Zoom. The children will need to have access to a device that has the internet, runs PowerPoint and facilitates the use of audio and camera (webcam).

Information on Zoom Software
Please note that a free Zoom account and Zoom client software for PC, Mac or Linux is required in order to participate in these session. If you have not used Zoom before, please use these links learn how to download the necessary software and then register an account;

Getting Started

Creating an Account

(You can register with your name/email as the parent as during the first session it is possible to change the name displayed on the camera screen to your child’s at a later stage)

Other notes on the online course:

  • Your child will need a quiet space for the sessions and a computer/laptop/ipad with internet connection
  • The sessions will be interactive so they will need to be seen (using the computer camera/webcam) and heard (using the computer microphone or headset)
  • They will need a pen/pencil and paper during the sessions
  • It’s important the children are relaxed and comfortable; if possible please do help them get set up for the first session and be on hand for any technical difficulties.
  • Following that, we find these sessions work best when the children are given the independence to complete them alone rather than having other people listening and watching nearby. However please feel free to listen if you would like to!
  • The content of the sessions will include discussion, games, watching videos, and sharing thoughts and ideas with the group. The children will at times be required to type using the keyboard and answer verbally

More information will be shared in our pre-course email, which you will receive towards the end of the week before the course starts.

In this customised programme, we can focus on what you want most for your child. To give you a better idea, please find an overview of exemplary session contents below.

On our Brilliant Me Courses, each day a story is shared with the children based around the power of our mindset. Then, creative activities help them link the learning within the story to their everyday lives. Daily mindfulness activities are included to help the children learn to manage their emotions, as well as a daily ‘mission’ which is a simple task set to challenge them to embed their learning. Brilliant ‘Billy’ the bunny accompanies the children throughout the  sessions and is used as a distancing tool; talking about certain situations Billy might think negatively in can sometimes be an easier step than talking directly about our own experiences.

The stories shared can move around the following themes:

  1. Developing a ‘Can-Do’ attitude
  2. The power of YET
  3. Feeling stuck
  4. Dealing with unhelpful thoughts
  5. Different ways to show confidence
  6. Being awesome
  7. What do I like about myself?
  8. Finding my big voice
  9. Doing things I might not be good at

On our Life Skills Courses, children learn the theory behind each concept in the morning and then take part in fun activities/challenges to really embed what they have learnt. Each of our Life Skills Courses has a different focus. See below for an example of some of the themes in our Resilience Course:

  1. What is a growth mindset?
  2. Making mistakes
  3. Comfort zone
  4. The power of our thoughts
  5. Emotional Resilience

Sometimes we all get scared about making mistakes, but mistakes can actually help us learn! In this customised programme, you will learn about how to think positively, try new things and not worry about being perfect.

  • You will be on a video call (like skype or Facetime) led by a dedicated Role Model and just for you
  • You can wear comfortable clothes and have a drink nearby in case you need it
  • It will be a fun session of talking, thinking, listening to stories and drawing
  • Your Role Model would love you tell us your ideas and feelings during the activities, so talking is encouraged! But if there’s anything you don’t want to do, you can just sit and watch
  • We can’t wait to meet you and learn some awesome new skills together!

The Role Models Life Skills programme includes 8 different courses for children in Years 1-6 (ages 5-7 & 8-11). These separate courses can be completed in any order, or on their own.

Our courses follow an education framework developed by teachers, education experts and business leaders. This framework, based on the work of the Partnership for 21st century learning, defines the skills and knowledge that children need to thrive at school, at home and beyond. Our courses have been written by our Character Education team who are highly qualified educators. Our course content emphasises the importance of developing life and career skills alongside academic attainment.
