Online Resilience Course for Students Based in Singapore – 6 session

Focusing on resilience and growth mindset, our Online Resilience Course is for students based in Singapore aged 8-10, 11-13 and 14-16 and teaches these students how to face challenges, handle mistakes, deal with adversity and thrive in an ever changing world. It is made up of 6 x 90 minute online sessions and costs £350.

Each student will join the online session using ‘Zoom’ software (which can be downloaded) from their home.

All students must have a good grasp of spoken English as the sessions will all be in English and there won’t be a translator present.

Developing resilience

Helping your child to develop their resilience is one of the most effective ways to help them thrive at school, home and beyond. By developing a growth mindset, children can learn to push themselves outside of their comfort zone, embrace new experiences, challenges and persevere in areas that might not be their strengths. Understanding that intelligence and ability are not predetermined and that mistakes can help us learn, can have a huge impact on the way  a child approaches life.

Improve classroom learning

Developing resilience and a growth mindset can affect a child’s attitude and can also improve the way they learn in the classroom. Taking risks, dealing with setbacks, and pushing themselves to achieve more are all outcomes which can positively impact their education and attainment.

Role Models will be running a number of Online Resilience Courses for children aged 8-10, 11-13 and 14-16. The course consists of 6 sessions.

These will commence week of 24th February and there will be the option of have 3 sessions a week for 2 weeks or 2 sessions a week for 3 weeks.

  • Option 1:  Monday 24th February, Wednesday 26th February, Friday 28th February, Monday 2nd March, Wednesday 4th March and Friday 6th March
  • Option 2: Tuesday 25th February, Thursday 27th February, Tuesday 3rd March, Thursday 5th March, Tuesday 10th March and Thursday 12th March

Each session will be 90 minutes long and there will be three different groups a day; 3pm, 5pm and 7pm. Once you have chosen your time, the course will run at the same time for all 6 sessions.

Course Breakdown Questions

To book your child on the online resilience course, please follow below steps:

    1. Purchase the course through the website
    2. Fill out this form. On the form, please indicate:
      • Preferred course timings
      • Details about your child
    3. You will receive a confirmation email stating the final course timings
    4. Download and install Zoom on the computer you will use to attend the course

Our Online Resilience Course features the same content as our Resilience Life Skills Course but is delivered using technology. The content focuses more on the theory behind developing resilience, see below for the specific themes covered. It is made up of six 90 minute sessions.

 

Session 1: What does resilience and growth mindset mean? 

What’s the difference between a fixed mindset and a growth mindset? What mindset do we have?

Session 2: Making mistakes

Mistakes can be marvellous! What’s happening in our brains when we learn? (neuroplasticity)

Session 3: Comfort zone

What does it feel like to go outside of our comfort zone? Why is this important? What can we do when we feel anxious? Applying our resilience to our own situations, fears and worries.

Session 4: The power of our thoughts

How do our thoughts, feelings and actions affect each other? What thinking traps do we fall into? How can we relate this to our everyday lives?

Session 5: Emotional resilience

What about our emotions and responses? What does being emotionally resilient look like with my friends? family? as I grow older?

Session 6: How will we use what we have learnt?

Consolidating the last 5 sessions – when and how will we use this learning? What do we find hard and what can we do about it? Setting ourselves meaningful targets.

  • 6 x 90 minute online sessions (spread over 2 or 3 weeks)
  • A group of 6 children led by an inspirational Role Model
  • Children to join the online session using ‘Zoom’ software (which can be downloaded) from your home. This software is very straight-forward and similar to Skype
  • Children will need access to an internet connection and a suitable device (desktop computer/laptop/Ipad)
  • The sessions should take place in a quiet room where there is a high bandwidth. The Role Model will run the programme from a quiet space too. It is vital that they are both comfortable and able to speak openly.

The Role Models Life Skills programme includes 7 different courses for children aged 6-16. These separate courses can be completed in any order, or on their own.

Our courses follow an education framework developed by teachers, education experts and business leaders. This framework, based on the work of the Partnership for 21st century learning, defines the skills and knowledge that children need to thrive at school, at home and beyond. Our courses have been written by our Character Education team who are highly qualified educators. Our course content emphasises the importance of developing life and career skills alongside academic attainment. Our courses are not designed just for children who struggle with resilience, we believe everyone should be developing this important life skill. The online programme is a great opportunity for any child to gain a better understanding of what a growth mindset looks, sounds and feels like and how powerful it can be when applied in different situations. They will learn that we don’t have to believe everything we think and that they can choose how to respond and react to the various challenges life inevitably throws at us.  The online collaboration and communication with others throughout the programme can help boost general self-confidence and self-awareness. The course is a great way for children to explore being outside of their comfort zone within a fun and supportive environment.

 

To be eligible for this course, your child will:

  • Be aged between 8-16 years old
  • Have a good grasp of spoken English
  • Be willing to engage with a small group via technology 
  • Be available for all 6 sessions

 

The Role Model working with your child will have a follow up call with you at the end of the course.This will include  the progress they feel your child has made and any specific areas they have observed as areas for further development. You will also be invited to a 45 minute Parent webinar, detailing the content covered by the children and strategies for parents to help support this learning at home. This will be delivered by our Head of Character Education.
