Developing a growth mindset

The Resilience Course is designed to help your child:

  • learn how to face challenges & handle mistakes
  • let go of unhelpful, negative thoughts
  • develop a willingness to try new things & take risks
  • move away from fear of failure & perfectionism

Developing resilience

Helping your child to develop their resilience is one of the most effective ways to help them thrive at school, home and beyond. By developing a growth mindset, children can learn to push themselves outside of their comfort zone, embrace new experiences, challenges and persevere in areas that might not be their strengths. Understanding that intelligence and ability are not fixed and that mistakes can help us learn, can have a huge impact on the way a child approaches life.

What activities will the children do?

The course includes fun activities during which the children work together in teams to solve different challenges. These include the 'ping pong ball' challenge and the 'pass through a piece of paper' challenge, both require perseverance and a positive mindset!

Please watch our Parent Webinar below to get a better idea of what our Resilience Course involves. This includes an overview of what your child will learn, together with ideas and strategies for supporting their learning at home:

How does it work?

Our courses are available for children aged 5-7, 8-10 & 11-13. They typically run for either 3, 4 or 5 consecutive days.

Getting to know your child

All our courses are run in small groups. This ensures our Role Model can get to know each child individually.

To help with this, before the course begins, we ask you to answer a few questions about your child and any specific needs they might have. We will also ask about food allergies, medical conditions and any additional needs that our Role Model needs to know about.

It will only take a minute or two, and it ensures our Role Model has all the information they need to ensure your child has the best experience possible.

Included with all our courses...

  • Your child will receive a nutritious lunch each day. Please make sure they bring a bottle of water.
  • Each day you will receive a summary email, describing what was covered so you can discuss it with your child. They may also include photos of your child taking part in the activities (if consent has been given).
  • At the end of the course you'll receive a set of top-tips on how you can support the development of life skills at home.
  • Your child will receive a branded official certificate to recognise completion of the course.
  • You'll also receive a written report from the Role Model working with your child
  • Finally, after the course has finished you'll receive follow up videos, that you can watch with your child. These aim to remind your child of the key course themes.

COVID-19 Policy

The introduction of Role Models workshops has had an enormously rewarding impact on our Prep 6 pupils. The flexibility of the school being able to choose the topics based on the cohort is very beneficial and the feedback from the children was more than encouraging. Most pupils rated that Role Models has given them better resources to deal with problems that may arise in the future or the confidence to do and be what they want. The weekly communication to parents has been received well and they are eager to get involved from home. We are very much looking forward to working with Role Models again this year and hope that we will be able to extend the workshops to other age groups as well.

Absolutely fantastic course. Hugo loved every minute of it. It would have been good to have a parent 1-2-1 after discussing the report as we are not as knowledgeable as you are, and therefore talking about a few points to continue at home would have been useful. Please let me know when you plan to do more in the Shrewsbury area.

James really enjoyed 'how' you taught him resilience (via games, etc) vs. a traditional method that doesn't resonate as much. Following, we saw him act out very independent actions whereby before the camp he was very hesitant . Strongly recommend!

Our courses are not designed only for those who may be struggling with specific life skills. We believe all children can build on these essential skills in order to reach their full potential. What is the Extended Day Package?

At some venues we are able to look after your child for additional hours before and after the usual course time. We call this the Extended Day package. Outside of the course hours, one of our Role Models will run some extra-curricular games and activities.

An Extended Day Package costs between £15 and £25 depending on the number of hours of additional childcare. If this is available, it will be listed at the top of the course page, showing the specific hours and the price. If the message is not shown at the top of the course page, then we don’t offer an extended day at this venue.

It will also be shown at the checkout as an optional extra, charged for each day of the course. If you would like to use the Extended Day facility but only on specific days, please call or email us with your requirements.
