SEN Summer Camp 2015
This Summer, Role Models are running two Special Educational Needs (SEN) Summer Activity Camps for a maximum of 20 children per camp (aged 6-12) at the Park Gardens Nursery in Wandsworth from July 27-31 and our brand new camp at Vanessa Nursery in Ravenscourt Park from August 3-7. Both venues are used as nurseries during term time so are completely secure and designed for children. The camp will be run by teachers from Blossom House School (a leading special needs school in Wimbledon) and other London schools.
Each day will be a balance of calm, dynamic, sensory and food activities, such as games of balloon tennis, designing posters & pictures, yoga, cupcake decorating, team competitions, music & gaming sessions plus some brand new activities. The camp has been organised off the back of huge demand from parents for SEN focused activities run by experts.

Testimonials from previous camps
“The organisers and the organisation was simply amazing. I feel very lucky to have come across an item on the camp in Families magazine, as there are too few appropriate activities for my child during the holidays!”
“I really want to commend you as a company – I’ve had nine years of SEN services and Role Models is really something else. Combined with Wandsworth funding this REALLY feels like help, which doesn’t happen often! Thank you.”
“This was the most organised extracurricular activity our child has ever been involved in. It’s also ten times more organised than his school is.”
“I would like you to know Max loved his time in your camp and we look forward to doing it again. Thanks also for the lovely pictures”
“Pre-camp info was great. The visual timetable and story about the camp were brilliant”
“I think that knowing my child was looked after by members of staff who work with SEN children and trained in that field was the most important to us”
“Amalia loved her time with you and we will definitely spread the word amongst the groups we are in”
“Will be writing to other mums about my son’s time in camp & hope to have some of his friends attend the Christmas camp”
“Thomas said he had really enjoyed himself and said he would definitely like to go again”
“Sonny had a great time … Will certainly be booking the Easter Camp”
Why choose Role Models?
The quality of our people. We are one of the very few childcare providers to offer specialist SEN care. Our team of talented, enthusiastic and dynamic Role Models is able to create a safe and fun environment for children with a range of specific learning difficulties. Each Role Model has been selected because he or she possesses a talent in at least one of five specific areas: music, drama, sport, arts & crafts or homework help.
Which specific special needs are the Summer Camps catered for?
The activity weeks will meet the needs of children with mild to moderate special needs such as Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Down’s Syndrome, Autism and Asperger’s Syndrome.
What ages are most appropriate for the SEN Summer Camps?
The special needs camp will be suitable for 6-12 year olds. We will do some whole group activities and split the group depending on age & interest.
What safety checks are in place?
All Role Models taking part in the SEN Summer Camp have extensive SEN childcare experience, are DBS / CRB checked, reference checked and interviewed. At least one will be First Aid trained. There will be a minimum of 1:5 staff to children ratio.
How much will the camp cost?
The cost is £60/day, discounted to £50/day if all five days are booked. Childcare vouchers are accepted on our Wandsworth Camp only as we are not yet Ofsted registered at the Vanessa Nursery site.
Is financial support available?
Funding is available from Wandsworth, Merton and Sutton local authorities and other LAs may also support parents. Please enquire with Role Models regarding the process for local authority funding support.
Should children bring their own lunch?
Parents / guardians will need to provide a packed lunch and break time snack for their child, for each day of the special needs camp. Water will be available on site.
Who will be running the Summer Camps?
Jessica Huckin (Teacher from Blossom House, Wimbledon – a school specialising in SEN children) will be designing the events. Our team of SEN experienced Role Models will run the day. They will be a mixture of teachers, drama-therapists and teaching assistants.
Can a mainstream (or neuro-typical) sibling attend the Easter Camp?
Yes, they absolutely can but the special needs camp is designed for SEN children and will be run at an appropriate pace with suitable activities. They also need to have turned 5 years old before 31/08/14 to comply with our Ofsted registration.
How can you book?
You can book either by email or phone ([email protected] / 07825 598344).
